This month, October 2019, the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region will turn officially ten years. What has this strategy entailed for Sweden, and what are the challenges facing the Baltic Sea Region today? We asked Hans Dahlgren, Swedish Minister for EU Affairs. The 9th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea region (EUSBSR), hosted by the Ministry of foreign affairs of Estonia and the Baltic Development Forum, in close cooperation with the European Commission, will bring together around 700 participants from the Baltic Sea region and beyond. On 14 December 2007, on the basis of the EU Parliament Resolution of 16 November 2006, the European Council called on the European Commission to develop a Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The strategy aims to save the sea, connect the region and increase prosperity. The implementation of the strategy is financed from different EU funds in the area including the Baltic Sea Region Programme. The Commission officially launched the Strategy and its Action Plan on 10 June 2009.
